Small Concrete Home Near Madrid Displaying an Irregular Shape Posted: 16 Apr 2012 06:26 AM PDT Casa NM was designed by gaSSz Architects and is located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Madrid, Spain. At the top of the plot, using a clearing in the pine forest, the house sits in front of a natural view. The initial parallelepiped shape of the residence was partially adjusted to create a volume with truncated corners and a diagonal roof. Reinforced concrete was used for the exterior finish of the residence, a solution that is both functional and aesthetic, visually integrating the dwelling in its environment. The project is composed of two levels: the upper floor accommodates two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, while the one below hosts the common areas (living room, kitchen and main bathroom). The windows act as breaches in the concrete walls, welcoming sunlight during the day and subtly contrasting the darkness of the night. Two Duplex Homes Merged in a Single Modern Project: Dupli Dos Residence Posted: 16 Apr 2012 04:54 AM PDT The Dutch company JUMA Architects in collaboration with Minimum Arquitectura combined two duplex homes in a single contemporary residence, resulting in Dupli Dos Residence. The two existing external staircases were demolished and replaced by an internal staircase. The steel canopies and wooden sun terraces provide the visual fusion of the two original living entities. Hypnotic ocean views and tasteful modern arrangements are the defining elements of this project. Inspiring relaxation throughout, the house seems especially developed for an eternal holiday. Emphasizing on the connection with the villa’s surroundings was one of the most important objectives considered by the architects. Every room provides access to the terrace and balconies, while the private pool becomes an extension of the mansion and its link to the ocean. A color palette defined by white and enriched with wooden accents enhances the welcoming holiday atmosphere.

Ebony and Leather Defining The Interiors of a Highly Modern Apartment in Moscow Posted: 16 Apr 2012 03:39 AM PDT Geometrix Design Architects have recently presented their newest project , a highly modern apartment located in a famous residential complex in Moscow. The total area of the loft is 152.6 square meters and the materials used for the interior design- leather, ebony wood and stone- blend in perfectly with the strict geometry and precise architectural forms. Abandoning the idea of plain, blank walls, the designers decided to make use of each square inch and divide the space into functional zones, united by a common concept. In the hallway, the closet smoothly flows into the storage room area. Sliding doors of black glass reveal the fireplace or the elegant bookshelves. The lounge area near the fireplace can smoothly be transformed into a home theater, with plenty of room for guests. The lighting units have a metal finish, enhancing the flashy, modern feel of the apartment. Unconventional Way to Add Color to Your Home: Oups Dripping Lamp Posted: 16 Apr 2012 02:33 AM PDT We are constantly surprised by the original designs in the lighting field. Fresh and unexpected, the Oups dripping lamp from Nathalie Be resembles a paint bucket surprised in the middle of spilling. Hence its unusual name. Measuring 1,65 meters in height, the lamp is definitely an eye-catcher and is likely to become the focal point of a room. Its playful design and lively colors make it an interesting addition for minimalist interiors, adding personality. The variety of colors available for the design make it a versatile lighting project and not to mention a cheerful one. The inspiration for the Oups lamp is derived from the designer’s memories of being an “apprentice” in her father’s painting studio. Would you consider integrating this type of lamp in your own home? What color would you choose? You're reading Unconventional Way to Add Color to Your Home: Oups Dripping Lamp originally posted on Freshome. V-Shaped Residence in Argentina Defined by Dynamism and Fluidity Posted: 16 Apr 2012 12:31 AM PDT Located in Santa Fe, Argentina, Casa V was designed by Matías Blas Imbern+ Agustina González Cid and borrows its name from the shape of the residence. According to the architects, the idea for this project was to build a house around a patio without having to resort to a cloister, taking advantage of the irregular shape of the terrain. Measuring 210 square meters, on a lot of 800 square meters, the residence gives the impression of a fluid volume, a compact mass that was stretched, while preserving its continuity. The pool completes the appearance of the project and the whole assembly is surrounded by lush trees. Dynamism and fluidity are the features that characterize the strategy of this work, as well as the project’s relationship with its surrounding landscape. How would you comment on the features of this modern home? You're reading V-Shaped Residence in Argentina Defined by Dynamism and Fluidity originally posted on Freshome.
