Indulging In French Patisserie And Exquisite Design Posted: 02 May 2012 06:13 AM PDT A French pastry – Poison d’Amour – in Lisbon shelters an exemplary design that complements the French patisserie. Combining a dreamy but held back color palette, accentuated by the duality of matte black and white, the spaces assume their roles of creating a cozy yet elegant display for the perfumed products. A collaboration between 71 ARQUITECTOS and David Carqueijeiro Architects, this elegant modern display of pastry interior design has a little something for everyone in a charming space located on the ground floor of a 18th century building. A striking display of natural and artificial light creates an iconic space illumination guarding all colors and textures in sight. Beautiful simple lights hanging from a dark ceiling in a delightful knotted way were creatively adjoined with a sparkling chandelier. A limestone arch reminiscent of the exterior cladding pierces the modern space, creating a bold bond between past and present. Here, at the entrance, a "Tiger Skin" limestone product display invite customers to enjoy a little piece of France in a cleverly designed atmosphere, either in the tea room or the outdoor terrace.

World’s Largest Underground High-Speed Rail Station Posted: 02 May 2012 04:33 AM PDT Meant to connect Hong Kong to Beijing, the Express Rail Link West Kowloon Terminus is said to become the largest underground high-speed rail station in the world. This stunning modern concept was designed by Andrew Bromberg of international architecture studio Aedas and its completion is programmed for 2015. In three years time, the huge 4,628,481 square feet (430,000 square meters) contemporary terminal in central Hong Kong will be prepared with 15 tracks for high-speed trains reaching maximum speeds of 124 mph. Helping travelers get from one city to the other in 48 minutes opposed to the current 100 minutes train ride, the dazzling terminal is also an example of how far technology and architecture have come together. Starting with the first impression, this undulating building will change the city’s face – promising to proudly display Hong Kong’s bold and vanguard character. Rising 148 feet high above the surroundings, the structure’s roof line acts as dynamic-shaped pedestrian trails alongside green spaces. This park/terminal hybrid fabricates a promised view of the future – we can’t wait to see it finished and on-line. Sculptural Oregon Coast Beach House by Boora Architects Posted: 02 May 2012 03:32 AM PDT Boora Architects have designed a modern residence, located on the bay side of a peninsula on the Oregon Coast, USA. The project has a total area of 2,865 square feet and was developed in a “U”-shape, around a central courtyard. Its design captures the surrounding views and was associated by the architects with a glowing lantern in the marshland, during night time. Here is more information on the structure of the residence from the official project description: “The upper floor in the largest of the two buildings is extensively glass-walled. Windows crescendo from 8 to 15-feet tall at the most outward facing point. A large covered deck extends the indoor footprint by nearly an additional 1/3, joining the massing of the residence, framing an outdoor invisible wall. The lower level is more private, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a flex room–a space that converts open living area into a guest bedroom by pulling two eight-foot sliding hemlock accordion pocket panels to form walls“. This sculptural residence defined by wood and stone was especially developed as a week-end getaway- find it welcoming? Unusual-Looking Tea Bag Holder Paying Tribute to the Titanic Drama Posted: 02 May 2012 02:30 AM PDT There are designs that make you smile and designs that …don’t. We found this unusual tea bag holder designed by Gordon Adler and paying tribute to the Titanic and to all the people who embarked on the iconic ship. Made of stainless steel, this small gizmo was especially created to fit every coffee and tea mug. Its mechanism is simple: just press the margins and this will instantly make your tea more colorful and tasty, by simultaneously squishing the tea bag inside. You have to admit this design is original and interesting looking. But the question which inevitably pops up is -would you like to wake up every morning to a cup of tea reminding you of a past tragedy? Now wouldn’t a nice, neutral-shaped boat or vessel be a better solution for a tea-bag holder? Sophisticated Home in Montana: Quiet Waters Residence by Locati Architects Posted: 02 May 2012 01:00 AM PDT Quiet Waters Residence by Locati Architects can be defined by using a single word: “sophisticated”. Combining traditional decorations and materials, the residence does not only have a memorable appearance, but a unique cottage-like feel as well. With views of the Rocky Mountains, this modern chalet located in Big Sky, Montana, USA, displays interesting details throughout. With an exterior that blends wood, stone and glass, the building is camouflaged in its environment, while taking full advantage of the surrounding vistas with the help of generous windows, terraces, and an inviting swimming pool. A double-height living room acts as the core of the house, a place inspiring both warmth and intimacy, despite its impressive dimensions. Traditional furniture elements, wooden decorations and the presence of fireplaces in most rooms, increase the feeing of comfort and well-being this place gives away.
