Modern Residence in Brazil Defined by Architecture Symmetry: Pernambuco House Posted: 11 Jun 2012 06:21 AM PDT We recently received photos and information of a project developed by Flavio Castro and located in Guarujá, Sao Paulo, Brazil.Here is the official project description: “No frontiers between the connected environments grouped by function are the major feature of the Pernambuco house. The architect drew 4 virtual axes perpendicular to the street to organize the distribution of internal and external environments. Two of them coincide to the right and left side façade and the other two are in the middle creating a large space for access that crosses the entire project. A central zone separates the house into two other spaces. On the left is the garage and services. The kitchen opens into the social area so the visitors can participate in the preparation of meals (dissolution of the frontiers between spaces). There is a helical metal stair in the back area allowing direct access to the terrace upstairs. On the right side there are the rooms and the freestanding metal ladder that leads to the upper floor. The same alignment dictates the distribution of external spaces such as the swimming pool and sauna that follow the axes perpendicular to the public street and form the pavilion at the backyard. Upstairs, the four suites follow the same logic of the first floor with a central hall of distribution. On the roof, the glass provides overhead lighting for the entire up floor and main floor. This opening marks the central axis as an exception. While the transparency of glass lets in sunlight, two openings next to the roof eliminate the hot air that rises through its lower density (sustainability). Especially Designed for Relaxation: Modern Grafitti House in Peru Posted: 11 Jun 2012 04:58 AM PDT Gomez de la Torre & Guerrero Arquitectos designed the Graffiti House, a modern residence opening up towards its landscape in Playa Gaviotas, Peru. Stretching over a built surface of 259 square meters, the house was especially developed for a couple passionate about culinary delights and quality relaxation. The project is structured on two levels, connected with the help of a central staircase, which ultimately directs inhabitants towards the retractable roof and terrace. The large kitchen is the highlight of the second floor. State-of the-art equipment and furnishings make this a great place for the couple to improve their cooking skills. The color palette defined by red and black contrasts the white walls of the residence and ensures an overall appealing aesthetic effect. A graffiti portrait is the focal point of the inner hallway, livening up the atmosphere. How do you find it? Manipulating Natural Materials Into Suspended Stone Installations Posted: 11 Jun 2012 02:48 AM PDT A wide arrangement of suspended stones make the subject of a surprising installation. Korean artist Jaehyo Lee used natural stones found in nature to construct a different arrangement than we’re used to – three dimensional constructions of manipulated nature that surprise the extensive work load leading to a nature-based, man-manipulated reality. Working with different materials – such as stone, wood, steel and nail, the artist creates interpretation of the world around us – capturing the essence of each material in a series of interesting installations.
