Eye-Catching Alternative To Bearskin Rugs From Myk Posted: 03 Apr 2012 07:35 AM PDT The classic idea of enjoying a relaxing evening by the fireplace, laying on a bearskin rug while stress and worries seem to float away was recently upgraded to an animal-friendly version. The Bommel Bearskin resembles a fierce animal, but this particular bear skin rug is made out of different sized pom-poms – 1,200 of them, to be exact. Even the claws, nose and muzzle are wool felted, constructing an eye-catching design made out of wool and merino wool. A 5 mm bottom layer, made out of 100% wool felt, acts as the base for this interesting pom-pom construction. This fun alternative to displaying a bear skin in your living room or bedroom is part of the Bommel Collection presented by Berlin-based studio Myk. The creative team works with wool felt pom-poms to shape fun, colorful rugs crafted by hand. You're reading Eye-Catching Alternative To Bearskin Rugs From Myk originally posted on Freshome. Urban Palms Residence With Smart Privacy-Protecting Solutions Posted: 03 Apr 2012 06:13 AM PDT The Palms Residence is an urban contemporary residence located in Venice, California. The narrow lot challenged Los Angeles-based Marmol Radziner architectural studio to design a private home on an infill lot. A small courtyard and garden space ingeniously connects the interiors to the exterior, while large windows overlooking the private yard were combined with a series of clerestory windows capturing light without interfering with the inhabitant’s privacy. Improving the client’s lifestyle by creating a strong relationship between the site, materials and spaces, Marmol Radziner constructed a cozy home displaying custom walnut casework in the living room and kitchen, built-in beds and stylish casework in the bedrooms and beautiful cedar siding on the exterior. Concrete floors cover the first level, while the second floor was decorated with eco-timber hickory floors. Privacy was a strong point that had to be dealt with and the architects used a series of louvered panels and fencing to create a comfortable and private atmosphere. Modern Home Conversion in Toronto Showcasing Inspiring Details Posted: 03 Apr 2012 04:59 AM PDT Marlborough House is a project implemented by architecture company superkül and consists of a home conversion in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Here is more from the press release we were sent: “The many original interior partitions of this small house in Toronto were removed to create a remarkably welcoming and well-lit house characterized by its open relationship to the landscape out back. Ash wood millwork and a stone floor on the ground level tie the interior of the house to the crushed gravel courtyard outside, which features a small cedar garden pavilion. Dark-bronze anodized window frames provide a counter-point to the light interior palette and buff bricks on the street facade. The tall windows on the three storyvoid at the centre of the plan provide a generous light to the rooms around it, including the principal washroom, which is separated from the void by a translucent, stretched vinyl panel. Cast glass pendant lights hung at different heights in the void create an optical shift that playfully distorts the scale and height of the void”. Decaying Street Facades Turned Into Living Walls by Nikita Nomerz Posted: 03 Apr 2012 01:07 AM PDT Living Walls is a street art project initiated by artist Nikita Nomerz , from the western Russian city of Nizhniy Novgorod. According to Twisted Sifter, the graffiti and street artist seeks decaying buildings and paints them into living characters: “I started in school with classic hip hop graffiti but became more interested in street art and began all sorts of experiments. Now basically I like to play with space and objects. I am inspired by the place itself. I love watching the city and finding an interesting point. Usually I do not spend so much time to create one work, sometimes less than an hour. But it all depends on the size of the object and my ideas.†His works are fun, fresh and full of personality. I definitely would not mind coming across one of these characters in my home town. You're reading Decaying Street Facades Turned Into Living Walls by Nikita Nomerz originally posted on Freshome. Inspiring Contemporary Home Invaded by White: Vivienda en Llaveneres Posted: 02 Apr 2012 11:56 PM PDT Spanish interior designer Susanna Cots designed the interiors for a project entitled Vivienda en Llaveneres and located in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, north of Barcelona, Spain. The design approach is said to be inspired by the tranquility of the neighboring sea: “White predominates and gives to the space a personality that attracts order, and is complemented by colour. The design stretches out to the sea from every part of the house, to allow Nature in. The kitchen, dining room and bedrooms are parallel to the sealine, allowing the exterior to enter the house in many ways, such as through the cubicle that houses the cupboard and the guest bathroom. The outside surface is integrated with the suite's flooring, the bed head and the bathroom, achieving the same exterior-interior effect”. Enjoy the design ideas displayed by these interiors and let us know which detail would you consider integrating in your own home. London Residence Designed For An Elderly Couple Posted: 02 Apr 2012 10:33 AM PDT We received photos of the House on Sandall Road – a single family residence located in Ealing, London, on a back land site. Completed in 2010 by Evolve Architecture, this project was designed for the clients’ elderly parents at the end of their garden. Situated in a conservation area near a nature reserve, the white volume seen from the street hides a collection of rooms and details that will surely catch your attention. Here is how the architects describe the residential project: “The garden elevations are clad in timber fitting in with the surroundings. From the hill beyond the view is of the sedum roof covering the house. The south elevation has a deep overhang to shade the large glazed doors and windows in summer and provide a 'porch' for accessibility to the garden. By exploiting the natural slope of the site the lower floor is well lit large windows. The direct garden access and separation from the ground floor provides an independent space for a future carer. It is designed specifically for the current occupiers and their needs but could well adapt to family living . For now the occupiers enjoy the view of their grandchildren from their kitchen table. The house is of timber framed construction built with sustainability in mind and suited to a modest budget. Materials used include Sheepswool insulation, Western Red Cedar treated with linseed oil, Sedum Green roof, Marmoleum and solid Maple timber flooring, Gabion boxes filled with recycled bricks, re-used railway sleepers, recycled plastic paving grid, water butts.” You're reading London Residence Designed For An Elderly Couple originally posted on Freshome.
