Modern Three-Level Home in Guatemala Welcoming Nature Indoors Posted: 02 Apr 2012 06:09 AM PDT Casa Luz is an interesting approach to a modern home, envisioned by studio Paz Arquitectura and located in Guatemala city, Guatemala. Structured on three levels, this 1&,300 square foot home displays a mix of tempered glass, wood and exposed concrete, resulting in an eye-catching aesthetic effect: “With intent to emphasize the structural elements, and to seek to highlight the local construction methods and materials, design work was done using fine timber formwork in order to leave a permanent imprint on the exposed concrete. The large windows explore the opportunities to open the space as much as possible, and using floor to ceiling windows allows the rooms to become a balcony. Existing vegetation is preserved so that when you open the windows you could have a visual relationship with the existing trees.” Enjoy the virtual tour! Modern Harutzim House Designed With Organizing Spaces In Mind Posted: 02 Apr 2012 05:07 AM PDT Welcoming and displaying a modern, cozy design, the Harutzim House benefits from a long, narrow and sloped 940 square meter lot. Having to work with a challenging site and the client’s desire for a spacious residence with a strong connection to the outdoors, Sharon Neuman Architects struggled to find the best solutions. A huge patio connected to most of the rooms adorns the outside space, while the interiors display a strong sense of organization both in design and in the number of beautifully designed storage spaces. Organized around a central courtyard, the single family residence in Harutzim, Israel, “ is based on the longitudinal axis as private area and an open square space 120 sq.m as public area. A dramatic long corridor is lighted by a “light-fall” – a sky light window devised to also let hot air out. We dealt with the subject of an organization and order using a huge piece of furniture designed as multi – functional storage, located in the central open space, accessed from four sided. One of its sides hides the steps leading down to the basement and has a niche displaying a collection of sculptures. Concrete is one of the most common materials here, and is used in a unique way – thin fiber cement surfaces form the kitchen countertops and wrap the island, coat the window sills, the surfaces in bathrooms and garden benches.” The built structure does not exceed 300 square meters, but the indoor/outdoor connection and its carefully designed floor plan makes it look and feel a lot bigger without loosing its intimate atmosphere. Photos by Amit Gosher capture intriguing details and design lines. Enjoy! You're reading Modern Harutzim House Designed With Organizing Spaces In Mind originally posted on Freshome. The Defying Armchair: Paszcza by WAMHOUSE Posted: 02 Apr 2012 03:47 AM PDT WAMHOUSE designed an originally looking armchair for modern rooms with an eccentric decor. Here is the press release we were sent from the project developers: “Apart from designing interiors, houses and furniture, the WAMHOUSE company is also a manufacturer of original furniture for private and commercial interiors. Paszcza armchair is an example. It has been created for those who can afford extravagance – its appearance is exclusive, yet with a sense of humour. The armchair frame is modern, but the seat, as you can see, retained a natural, organic shape of a tongue. Due to its dimensions and style, this piece of furniture is most suitable for large, spacious interiors“. We like to think of this as a cheerful take on a common living room armchair. U-Shaped Modern Family Home in Singapore: Sunset Residence Posted: 02 Apr 2012 01:41 AM PDT Sunset Residence was designed by Topos Design Studio and is located in Bukit Timah, Singapore. The modern family residence was built around a central swimming pool. The U-shaped plan ensures a high level of privacy, as well us great views from every bedroom. Once inside, a potential visitor will be immersed in an elegant, contemporary atmosphere: “The quality of light and the form on the interior spaces were key to the design which is evident from the generously proportioned lounge and the double height dining area of the first floor. These grand rooms offer fantastic spaces for the family to congregate and enjoy time together. The second floor of the property is dedicated to the private realms of the users and a relaxing alternative lounge away from the main family area. A comprehensive aluminum louver system, across this floor, aids in sun shading.” Find any other details worth emphasizing on? Interesting Architecture Duo: Modern Extension to Small Farmhouse in the Netherlands Posted: 02 Apr 2012 12:15 AM PDT Company reSET architecture sent us photos and information about the renovation and extension of a small decaying farmhouse in the Dutch Betuwe region. Here is the press release we were sent: “A new annex is placed in the second line, behind the existing farmhouse, inferior in height but with a strong presence, providing a backdrop for the farmhouse. In its updated context the old building becomes more prominent in its surroundings. The contrast in architecture between the farmhouse and its new added wing results in an ambiguous synergy. The character of the separate elements is easy to read yet this does not mean their relationship is simple: recognize new changes to the old farm and local historical references to elements in the new volume provide a multiple relationship between the two parts of the whole. The two main volumes are clearly recognizable, old and new, but in function, detailing and materials linked. In function the differences reinforce each other. Two different housing archetypes are combined; a landscape-oriented ‘loft-like’ open-plan living space and a more private plan, arranged in rooms, in the existing farmhouse. In both cases, the openings in the wall are arranged in a way that they provide optimum views of the surrounding landscape. In the old building these are just small peepholes and in the new section large windows provide a clear visual connection with the orchard. The facades of the extension have an identical structure, there is a steel base and top edge separated by a glass facade or timber infill”.
