Green Carpet Installation Following Picturesque Pedestrian Trails Posted: 30 Mar 2012 04:50 AM PDT The beautiful town of Jaujac, France recently became part of an art installation designed by Marseille-based artist Gaëlle Villedary. A visionary design made out of 168 rollers of grass attempts to connect the inhabitants with the surrounding nature. This display of grass cannot be ignored, as it runs through the village leading to the city center. Undulating down the hill and marking the middle of the pedestrian trails, the Green “Red Carpet” - Tapis rouge! - installation stretches along 1,400 feet and weighs 3.5 tones. Carefully placed on flights of stairs and taking straight and circular corners, the green carpet crosses a bridge and continues through the sand covered area where people can rest and play. Designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the village’s arts and nature trail programs, this perfectly adapted bio installation strongly connects the picturesque landscape to the solid stone buildings, creating a fairytale atmosphere. Minimalist And Versatile Furniture Design From Yukati Hotta Posted: 30 Mar 2012 03:46 AM PDT Tokyo-born Copenhagen-based designer Yukati Hotta has proved once again that simple, functional furniture can look amazing by adding a touch of color and creativity. The Hako Stool – translates from Japanese as “box” – is a simple and effective way of storing things or resting in a small space or a minimalist large space. Easily transformable from a stool to a “treasure box”, the Hako Stool features a vividly colored cushion top that can be replaced with an elegant ribbon. This simple change can mean a lot when living in a small apartment and you need every inch of space. Five separate parts compose this elegant design and reminds us to use no more than we need with creativity and curiosity. Sara Ferrari’s Modular Sofa With Interchangeable Back Posted: 30 Mar 2012 01:35 AM PDT We love to see ideas that change the way we interact with furniture around us. Sara Ferrari‘s modular Baco Sofa adapts to your needs with an interchangeable back prepared to offer your choice of color and finish while comfortably inviting you to rest. Created for contemporary Italian design company D3CO, the sofa’s fun movable blocks help compose interesting arrangements. Here is how D3CO describe the product: “The backrests are simply laid on the seat without any fixing; this makes the different backs easy to move, as if they were big cushions. BACO is therefore easy to change and transform, thanks to a fine variety of shapes, colours and even finishings. The backrests have been designed in different dimensions and they are available in either plain or capitonné model, a classic in the sofa’s world here modernized with colourful textiles. Usually this latter sort of finish requires a solid wood support, but the craftsmanship of DECO made it possible to recur to a soft one.” What colors would you choose? Sustainable Home in Costa Rica Making the Most of Its Scenic Landscape Posted: 30 Mar 2012 12:24 AM PDT Casa Mecano was designed by Arquitectos Costa Rica and is located in Península de Osa, Costa Rica. The residence was especially developed to take in the surrounding landscape: “Casa Mecano functions as an organism that adapts to its environment. The project maximizes the use of passive design strategies through bio-climatic architecture in order to achieve the thermal comfort levels, adequate for the tropical environment.” The rooftop was projected as a sail and a manual system was designed, allowing the client to change its inclination, with the goal of controlling the direct sunlight projected inside the house. The interior design of this sustainable residence is highly modern, with a generous living and dining space acting as the core of the project. All the rooms have excellent views towards the infinity pool and the scenic vistas beyond.
