Fluid Otter Cove Residence Overlooking the Ocean in California Posted: 27 Mar 2012 06:07 AM PDT Studio Sagan Piechota Architecture completed the Otter Cove Residence, a meandering home perched on a cliff, overlooking the ocean in Carmel, California. Here is more from the architects: “The large area of the house was disguised by splitting the house into two wings — recessing the house into the site and locating nearly half of the space partially underground. The plan-split created a courtyard, the eastern wing providing privacy from Highway One and the western wing buffering the ocean wind. Secondary spaces are located on the lower floor and borrow light from above through three staircases. These spaces provide respite from the panoramic drama on the upper floor. Roofs are visually pulled apart from the walls creating the affect of lightness and lift. Walls are located only where absolutely necessary for privacy or structure and treated as monolithic elements.“. Fluidity is the main attribute of this home, meant to be a natural extension to its landscape. “Interconnected” Architecture in Luxembourg City: Low Energy House Posted: 27 Mar 2012 04:32 AM PDT Low Energy House was designed by Steinmetz De Meyer Architects and is located in Luxembourg. Its design came as a result of the town-planning specifications in Luxembourg City, where interconnected houses are a common sight. According to the architects, this lead to a “complex massing characterized by cantilevers and large recesses acting as generators of the architectural form. Displayed as white volumes extended by strong horizontal and vertical lines, the composition appears very geometric, while drawing an elegant flowing from the ground to the roof top. Very expressive, the cornice becomes the element of integration to the architectural typology of the street and the neighboring houses“. The layout of the residence is interesting: a double height dining room connects the ground floor to the study in the mezzanine and the parental suite on the first floor. Have a look at the architecture plans at the end of the post for a deeper understanding of the project.

Original Modern Home Design: Psicomagia Residence in Uruguay Posted: 27 Mar 2012 03:29 AM PDT Architects: Estudio Martin Gomez Arquitectos designed the Psicomagia Residence in Punta Piedras, Punta Del Este, Uruguay. According to the architects, the house features two distinct volumes: “the first one overlooking the ruta 10, which contains the service area, and the second one overlooking the garden, pool and sea. On the ground floor, three bedrooms are located and on the first floor you can find the social area with an amazing view to the Punta Piedras beach. The two volumes facing each other connect the ground floor by a terrace as a transition area. At the same time these two volumes are very different from each other: the service area is a closed and heavy block and the social area is more open and transparent”. According to Decoist, the Sir Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent inspired sofa and trunk were especially developed as a tribute to this year’s coming Olympic games in London. Both the vintage Olympic poster print adorning the trunk and the Olympic inspired moleskin fabric, are a statement for any sports enthusiast. Scenic Rural Home in Montana: Stock Farm Residence Posted: 27 Mar 2012 01:18 AM PDT Stock Farm Residence was designed by studio Locati Architects and is located in the small town of Hamilton, Montana, USA. The rustic appearance and the scenic environments make this single story home give away a peaceful feel. According to the architects, the project “is designed in three parts in order to separate the more public from the private spaces. The main living spaces are centrally located, with the outer branches of the house accommodating the more private areas such as the bedrooms and owner’s art studio. Each section of the home is linked by hallways of abundant glass to once again maximize the amazing views. A key element of the Stock Farm Residence is the centrally located covered patio. This patio is the ultimate gathering place including a built-in barbecue, dining area, and nearby fire pit”. Another important part of the project is an art studio, which can be entirely opened towards the surrounding landscape, for inspiration. You're reading Scenic Rural Home in Montana: Stock Farm Residence originally posted on Freshome. Sustainable Residence in Germany: The Minimum House Posted: 27 Mar 2012 12:15 AM PDT The Minimum House was designed by studio Scheidt Kasprusch Architekten and is located in Klausdorf, Germany. The 1,615 square foot contemporary home, structured on two levels, is a prototype for a serial holiday residence. According to the architects, the project is offered under the label “minimumhouse” , all furniture and fittings included: “The concept was developed by the ideal of a house with maximum outdoor impressions and also by making full use of the solar yields for the building. The reflections of glass and light make the three-side glassed building shells appear immaterial. The team consisting of architects, engineers, building physicists and executing companies developed a modular building concept, that allows a contemporary open-plan living with high ecological and economic standards“. Some of the sustainable features of this home include a solar system placed on the extensively vegetated flat roof, a soil sensor, ceiling-mounted radiation heating and controlled ventilation. Five Illy Brands Under One Roof: Illyteca Shop Prototype in Trieste Posted: 26 Mar 2012 10:14 AM PDT Metroarea Architetti Associati have designed a prototype shop for famous brand Illy in Trieste, Italy. Illyteca is a colorful project, the first of a series of shops to be built worldwide. The main idea behind the design was to create a place where all the brands of the company (Illy coffee, Domori chocolate, Dammann Freres tea, Agrimontana jam and bakery products, Mastrojanni wine) would be presented, in a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Wooden boxes with colorful interiors were used as presentation shelves for each product. Natural materials such as oak wood and black granite are contrasted by the jewelery store feeling given by the colorful shelves and lighting scheme. The overall result is not too flashy, but modern and tasteful. Do you find this approach suitable for the values of the brand?

Dark Faceted Office Building Exposing An Asymmetric Shell Posted: 26 Mar 2012 07:22 AM PDT Completed in 2011, the Vidre Negre Office Building in Cuneo, Piemonte, Italy is a contemporary structure displaying an up-to-date, dynamic architecture. Occupying 1,400 square meters on a 6.960 square meter plot, the imposing shape mirrors in the nearby water, visually doubling its size and offering the eye an interesting play of volumes. Surrounded by native species within the surrounding park, the office building designed by Damilano Studio Architects runs its two wings from east to west. Between these two wings, a central volume shelters the stairs, toilets and bars. The east side of the building houses private offices, while the west size surprises with a large open space contrasting with the asymmetric arrangement of other spaces. On the basement floor, the space is divided between garages and conference rooms brightly illuminated through large windows. The prism is completely covered in black faceted glass and integrated photovoltaic panels, caring for the environment as well as for the visual presentation. Rising four floors above the ground, the dark architectural composition features an energy-saving heating system with radiant oak floors that are both functional and offer a pleasant aesthetic.
