Stunning Transparency In An Urban Romanian Loft Posted: 14 Mar 2012 06:16 AM PDT Architects Ion Popusoi and Bogdan Preda collaborated on an amazing residential project – this stunning transparent loft In Brasov, Romania. Set in a fairytale landscape, on a central hill close to the Black Church, this apartment building hints subtly towards the exquisite spaces found on the inside. Overlooking the mountains and historical center of the city, the Cetatuia Loft is one of the two lofts in the building and carefully exploits the available space to create a dynamic interaction with the landscape and with its own interior elements. The three floors encompassing 1,500 square meters maximize the amount of natural light coming through large windows, skylights and transparent floors. Contemporary Architecture Based on Overlapping Rectangles: El Secreto House Posted: 13 Mar 2012 11:50 AM PDT El Secreto House was designed by Pascal Arquitectos and is located in Mexico City, Mexico. Despite its name, the residence features a series of open spaces, encouraging spacial communication and continuity. According to the architects, the structure of the project was envisioned as follows: “The house has two levels, a ground floor and a first floor with an additional garage, courtyard with reflecting pool, and a garden area. The ground Floor includes a covered entrance hall, an inner hall, a double height library, two guest bathrooms, a double height Interior Patio, a living room with fireplace, dining room, breakfast area, and kitchen with Pantry and utility room.The residence was build with structure-based construction of concrete with rebar, apparent concrete walls, red brick and use of structural steel elements. The exterior wall finishes and some interior finishes are Galarza stone while cast with vinyl and enamel paints are used in wet areas“. What do you think- welcoming or too sober? Modern House in Portugal, Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean Posted: 13 Mar 2012 10:56 AM PDT This contemporary residence in southern Portugal was designed by studio Mario Martins Atelier and comes with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. According to the architects, House in Lagos “was designed in featureless surroundings but with a fabulous view over the west Algarve coast, which receives the westerly sun in abundance. The project is based on technically evolved solutions, with the emphasis on energy sustainability, the use of geothermal power and an integrated domotics system. The building was designed on the basis of lightness and it rests on an exposed concrete base, balanced over landscaped terraces and the water features (swimming pool and lakes). The gardened roof accentuates this concept. The entrance is over a suspended concrete walkway. On reaching the upper storey we grasp the fluidity of the space containing the sitting room, kitchen and the large double height area, where a reflecting pool fills the entire space”.
