Redesigned Singaporean Residence With Illuminating Skylights Posted: 10 Mar 2012 04:49 AM PST Singaporean architectural studio ONG&ONG have re-designed a modern home on the west coast of Singapore, at 28 West Coast Grove, in a tranquil neighborhood.  Through the use of wide, open spaces, the architects transformed the former residence into a sun-filled display of modern interiors. Extensive use of glass contributed to brightening up the living, entertaining and sleeping areas, but it also helped recreate the space arrangement. ONG & ONG “detached the main elements of the first floor rooms from the party wall, allowing light to enter from all sides of the residence. A secondary measure was the introduction of several skylights, thereby allowing natural light in to illuminate the greenery within. These plants give the interior a refreshing, outdoor-like feel. An infinity koi pond was also added to the back garden, creating a tranquil area for contemplation. When the folding doors are left open, the house's inner space merges with the yard into one seamless area. The highlight of this home is the master suite, comprising of bedroom, bathroom, stand-alone island with free standing tub and an exercise area. The overall feel is a spa-like environment without ever having to leave home.“  The only thing I don’t like about this residence is the fact that the neighbors are so close. Highly Contemporary Loft Design by GAS in Chisinau, Moldova Posted: 10 Mar 2012 02:05 AM PST Chisinau-based studio GAS completed the design of a generously-sized apartment located in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. The focal point of the loft is a a double-height, open plan living and dining area. Floor to ceiling windows flood this room in natural light, increasing the feeling of space. White walls contrast gently with the parquet flooring and the splashes of color given by the paintings and the decorative elements. Exposed pipes give the place an industrial touch, without interfering with its overall harmonious appearance. Lighting is ensured by two intriguingly-shaped lamps, one descending from the ceiling and the other placed on the floor. The bedrooms are in perfect chromatic tune with the living room. The kitchen is also highly modern and it goes without saying-all-equipped. What do you think are the ups and downs of living in this type of loft? Reflecting the Colorful Spirit of Southwest USA: Saguaro Palm Springs Hotel Posted: 09 Mar 2012 10:56 AM PST We received photos and information about a colorful hotel recently opened in California, USA. Here is the press release we were sent: “The Saguaro Palm Springs opened in early February 2012 was designed to reflect the colorful vibrant spirit of the Southwest, The Saguaro’s bold color palette is the work of renowned architects Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat, of New York-based Stamberg Aferiat Architecture, who infused the property with hues drawn from indigenous flowers of the desert region. The hotel itself, originally a three-story structure constructed in 1977, features an expansive pool located within a lush center courtyard.  There is also an intimate spa, complimentary daily yoga, and a bocce ball court.  In addition, The Saguaro features an innovative food & beverage program run by James Beard award-winning Iron Chef Jose Garces, including Tinto restaurant, El Jefe tequila bar, and the cabana pool bar”. The Illusion of Scenic Landscapes Outside Your Window: Deluge 3D Curtains Posted: 09 Mar 2012 09:48 AM PST Sometimes, the next best thing to having extraordinary views is pretending you do. Found on Studio Eric Klarenbeek, the Deluge 3D Curtains gives one access to an unusual 3D panorama. Here is more from the designers: “For an apartment at the seaside of Knokke, Belgium, we were asked to design curtains for the living and bedrooms. The living room has a view of the sea, and for this we created 3 layers of ‘voile’ curtains, working as a 3D panorama, every layer having different boats in depth, drawn by Eric Klarenbeek. The backside view of he apartment is poor due to the facing housing block. Therefore we created two layers of curtains. One thick light absorbing curtain, with the dutch dunes, and one layer of a thin voile, with plants and animals. All photographed by Eric Klarenbeek, on the island Texel in the Netherlands. Especially at night it’s difficult to distinguish whether its real or virtual, giving you a feeling of being able to step out of your door, right in the fields.” What landscape would you like brought to your window?
